Taveuni is located in Fiji, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. Taveuni is the third largest among the 322 inhabited islands in Fiji. It has a total surface area of 435 square kilometers (169 square miles), 42 kilometers longs and an average of 10 or 11 kilometers wide.

Taveuni island is cigar shaped and is also known as the "Garden Island" of Fiji because of its lush tropical rainforests, abundant flora and tropical flowering trees, which can all be credited to the island's volcanic origins which make the soil extremely fertile.

Taveuni is an excellent spot for the adventurous or the nature lover. The tropical setting provides something for everyone, from rugged ancient rock structures and beautiful waterfalls, creating freshwater pools in the heart of the rain forest to pristine and unspoiled beaches. Taveuni provides a place to relax for all it's visitors.

Tourist Attractions:

Lake Tagimaucia is covered with floating plants and flowers where you can also find the exotic tagimaucia flower. This flower has a rare combination of an outer white and inner red appearance when it blooms, and this flower starts to blossom from the end of September and goes on until December.

Lake Tagimaucia is one of the most popular geographical landmarks onTaveuni. It is seated in a crater of a dormant volcano which climbs to a height of 832 meters above sea level and situated below the magnificent Des Voeux Peak which itself has a standing height of 4040 feet above sea level. You can get to the lake on foot but you better have loads of stamina! A better suggestion is to drive down in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Bouma National Park. Considered to be at the top of the list of important tourist destinations on Taveuni Island, Bouma National Park is part of one of many tropical rainforests in Fiji. The natural splendor of the tall mountain ridges, volcanic deposits, and cliffs that overlook the sea is really an amazing sight. A memorable experience is a walk through the bush trails and a hike through the mountain trails.
There are three major distinct diving areas around Taveuni Island. To the north, we see the connecting islands of Qamea and Matagi with surrounding reefs. Vuna Reef and the Rainbow Reef well known for its diving and snorkeling activities.

Wildlife
Mostly all plants and animals indigenous to Fiji are found on Taveuni such as land crabs, the unique Fiji fruit bat, the Taveuni Silk bat, and some rare species of palm. Taveuni Beetle, Orange Dove, kula parrot, and the Australian magpie have made Traveuni island as their habitation. The Australian magpie, which was brought to this island to control coconut pests, have also grown in number on the island.
Taveuni, with its amazing natural beauty, has consistently attracted tourists from all parts of the globe, enjoying the island's natural parks, waterfalls and marine parks - you just need to make sure you have a lot of time in your hands so that you can make the most of your trip! You will be overwhelmed from the warmth and friendliness received from the Fijian people as well. The official language is English, however the natives also speak Fijian.
Like the rest of Fiji, Taveuni has hotter and slightly more humid weather during the summer months of November to March. The winter months, from April to October, have cooler days and nights, although anytime is a great time to visit Taveuni!
